Effective November 2006, Wal-Mart has introduced its $4.00 Generic Prescription Program to 44 Pharmacies in Washington state. The program includes over 331 generic drugs for up to a 30-day supply at commonly prescribed dosages. The program is available in 38 states, and at 3,009 pharmacies Nationwide.
Generic medicines generally cost between 30 percent and 60 percent less than equivalent brand name products. Wal-Mart estimates that its list of $4.00 generic prescriptions represent more than 1 in 4 of the prescriptions currently dispended in its pharmacies nationwide.
