Steve Suter, CPCU, MBA is the Chief Executive Officer of Healthcare Management Administrators, Inc. (HMA) and served as its Senior Vice President. Steve joined HMA in 2014 and has over 20 years of operations experience. He served for 5 years at Optum as the Chief Operating Officer of their portfolio of Payment Integrity businesses. He oversaw the integration of AIM Healthcare, UnitedHealthcare, and legacy Ingenix assets creating an $850M business with over 2,500 employees. He was a member of the management team that led the turnaround of Safeco Insurance. At Safeco, he served as Senior Vice President of Customer Care and Shared Services. He was accountable for the Customer Care, Claims Shared Services, Corporate Shared Services and Corporate Business Process Improvement organizations. He served at GEICO Insurance in multiple areas, including key leadership roles in FP&A, Sales, Service, Underwriting and Claims. He was instrumental in helping GEICO to scale their operations during a period of massive growth in 1990. Steve is a frequent and in-demand speaker at conferences and forums in the healthcare industry.
Steve wakes up thinking about our clients and what will help them achieve their healthcare objectives. He often says we have two main missions: (1) to be great stewards of our client’s healthcare dollars and (2) to ensure the members we serve achieve better health outcomes as a result of our work.
Steve holds a Certified Property Casualty Underwriter designation and a BS degree in Political Science from James Madison University and a MBA from Old Dominion University.
Steve can usually be found watching, managing or coaching soccer ranging from his local favorites, the Seattle Sounders to teams across the pond, especially the English Premier League. Also, don’t be surprised if you bump into him out for a long run along the East Lake Sammamish Trail.
